Jajpur/ Kendrapara: Providing much needed respite to people in Jajpur district, flood waters have started receding in many parts of the district.
Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) sources said flood situation in several areas of the district has improved as the water level in river Brahmani dropped by two feet at Bari today. However, the villages are still flooded with water. Power supply in Bari has also been disrupted due to the flood, the Deputy Special Relief Commissioner Prabhat Mohapatra said.
Thirty-five centres would be opened at Bari for supplying cooked food to the villagers. Cattle food is also being supplied to the affected areas, he added. Nearly, 20,000 to 22,000 people in Jajpur district have been affected by the floods while 1,600 people under Bari block in the district have been worst hit.
On the other hand, the water level at Patrapur, Alabha and Indupur in Kendrapara district continues to remain above the danger mark. Fourteen gram panchayats of Pattamundai and eight of Aul are still marooned in the district.
The SRC said power boats would be provided in two areas, including Manapur of Ali and Srirampur of Pattamundai in the district. Besides, steps have been taken to supply drinking water in the flood-hit areas.
Mohapatra said all departments have submitted reports on the amount of loss incurred due to flood.
