Bhubaneswar: The Directorate of Factories and Boilers today asked the Lingaraj biscuit factory located near the Infosys Chhak in Patia here to shut operations until the probe into the fire incident is over.
Talking to mediapersons after a spot visit at the damaged biscuit factory due to fire, Deputy director of the Factories and Boilers Directorate Malaya Pradhan said, “An investigation will be launched to find out the cause behind the blaze at the factory and what norm violations have been done.”
He added, “Last year the department’s Assistant Director had visited the biscuit factory and issued a notice to which authorities of the plant did not respond.”
The factory used to produce two tonnes of biscuit daily. After the implementation of GST, authorities of the plant had stored around 25 tonnes of biscuit to reprint new price tags on them.
Khurda sub-collector Manas Samal said, “No casualty is reported due to the biscuit factory fire apart from damages to biscuits and some furniture.”
Around 100 fire personnel and 13 fire tender units were pressed into service to bring the blaze under control.
A team of NDRF personnel also joined the fire services staff in the operation to douse the fire.
