Rourkela: A major fire broke out in the State Bank of India (SBI), Rourkela main branch here early this morning. However, no casualty has been reported in the incident.
On receiving information, five fire brigade teams rushed to the spot and doused the flames. Though the exact amount of damage is yet to be ascertained, property including computers, furniture and documents have been completely gutted in the fire.
SBI regional manager, Bibhuti Bhusan said an electric short-circuit from one of the air conditioners might have caused the fire inside the bank.
“A mobile SMS alert was received about some smoke inside the bank at around 3.30 am. The bank accountant immediately rushed to the spot. Though a police van passed through the area during that time, the staff could not spot any smoke from outside and went away,” said Bhusan.
Later, the accountant spotted smoke emanating from inside the bank and alerted the local fire station. Subsequently, five fire brigade teams reached the spot at around 5.30 am and launched a massive operation to douse the flames.
