Cuttack: What happens to Maoists after the photo ops when they surrender before police? Six years ago Maoists Champa Mandinga and Sindhu Mandinga had given up arms before Rayagada police. But that also turned to be the last time they were seen.
The sister duo has been untraceable since 2011 when they had surrendered. Family of the duo filed a habeas corpus in the Orissa High Court on Wednesday seeking the court’s intervention to trace both the women and get adequate compensation.
Petitioner’s counsel Manas Chand said, “Father of both the sisters today filed the petition in the High Court seeking its intervention and requested to direct the government to present the whereabouts of the two women, who have been missing since their surrender before the Rayagada district police.”
Champa and Sindhu had laid down arms before the then Rayagada SP Anup Krishna in 2011.
Though police caught Champa in an injured state while she was on her way to Berhampur to get medical treatment along with a cousin, the Rayagada police later announced that she and her sister have surrendered.
The family alleged they have not been allowed to meet both the sisters since then.
