Nabarangpur: A pregnant woman had to walk a kilometre to reach an ambulance at a time when she was experiencing labour pain in Murlibai village under Nandahandi block this morning.

The woman, Kasturi Jani, complained of acute labour pain following which the family members called up the 102 ambulance service. However, the ambulance could not reach the woman’s house due to lack of road.

After the walk, the ambulance waiting outside the village took the woman to the Dangarbheja hospital where she delivered a baby.

The condition of the woman and baby are stated to be stable, said hospital authorities.

In a similar case, another expectant mother was ferried by seven youths across a river with tubes and stretcher in Kalyansinghpur of Rayagada district to hospital.
