Bhubaneswar: Noted litterateur Chandrasekhar Rath who was selected for Padma Shri award this year died of old age ailments at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar today. He was 89.
Rath whose writings were marked by rugged, colloquial language was recently selected by the Government of India for Padma Shri award for his contribution to the field of literature.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and people from all walks of life paid rich tributes to Rath after his body arrived at his residence in the city.
“All of us are grieved by the sad demise of the eminent litterateur. He will be remembered by his fans and admirers,” said Patnaik.
Born on October 17, 1929 in Bolangir, Rath did his post-graduation in English from Canning College in Lucknow.
Rath was quite popular for his fiction and non-fiction writings and won over the hearts of Odia literature lovers for at least five decades.
A trendsetter in Odia prose, Rath has written several novels, short stories along with penning poems to earn many accolades during his illustrious career.
His notable writings include – Anek Banya Pare, Samrat O’ Anyamane and Mo Ghara among others.
