Bhubaneswar: In a broad daylight robbery, four miscreants looted a house in Gandamunda area under Khandagiri police limits in the city after entering it on the pretext of a taking a room in the building on rent.
The looters decamped with gold jewellery after tying the house owner and his wife with cello tape and threatening them with sharp weapons.
Elaborating the incident to media persons, Shradhanjali Prusty, the house owner’s wife said, “One of the looters came at around noon yesterday to see the room and said two girls studying Plus II will stay there on rent. But my husband asked him to bring the girls so that they would decide whether to stay here or not.”
Prusty added, “However, the same person came to our house at around 8 pm yesterday and said as fathers of these two girls are staying in Balasore he would take a photo of the room in his mobile phone and send it to the concerned person. He also said if the fathers like the room, he would make an advance payment then and there.”
Prusty further stated, “I told the person if he wants to see the room, the person who would be staying there can come tomorrow. As it was 8 pm, I told him it was difficult to go upstairs at that time.”
“Today the same person came to our house along with another man introducing him as the father of one of the girls at around 1 pm. Suddenly, the duo barged into my house and overpowered me and were joined by two others who came from nowhere. They started tying my mouth with cello tape. In the scuffle I tried to call my sister who was in other room. Hearing my groan, my sister called my husband who was in the bedroom. As soon as my hubby came out of his room, the two other miscreants reached his bed and pushed him onto it,” Prusty elaborated.
“Putting swords and knifes at me, the miscreants snatched a four gm gold chain and six gm bangles from me. The looters were speaking in fluent Odia,” she added.
Speaking to the news men, Subash Chandra Prusty, the house owner said, “I was sleeping in my bedroom when I heard a shout from my sister-in-law saying that someone has attacked my wife. As I got up from my bed and was about to walk towards the other room, two miscreants reached the bedside and pushed me. They asked me to remove my gold chain and ring at the point of a knife and a sword. While asking for the keys of the almirah, they realised the presence of my sister-in-law, who
by that time, had escaped through a backdoor gate. They also did not leave behind the mobile phones of the elderly couple. Fearing of getting caught, the miscreants fled from the spot,” he added.
Notably, the looted house was just at a stone throwaway distance from Khandagiri police station.
