Bhubaneswar: Come Rath Jatra, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) will run Mainline Engine Multiple Unit (MEMU) trains in Odisha.
ECoR General Manager Umesh Singh while adressing a press conference on Friday informed that the MEMU trains will be introduced between Berhampur and Bhadrak stations.
The introduction of MEMU trains will certainly reduce travel time for passengers as there would be no engine changes, informed sources.
Singh further informed that out of the total Rs 5200 crore allocation, Rs 3300 crore have been spent towards development of railway infrastructure last year. This time Rs 7,000 crore has been allocated in the budget, Singh said.
"Rs 70 crore will be spent for modernisation of Bhubaneswar Railway Station and Wifi facilities would be made available in all remote railway stations of the State," he added.
On the other hand, senior railway officials informed that the work on the proposed Khurda-Bolangir railway project has been delayed as nearly 4 km of land near Mahipur-Nuagoan falls under the forest category.
