Balasore: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said eastern India has remained economically backward but his government has focussed its development plan to uproot poverty from the region.

Addressing a public gathering in this coastal district of Odisha, Modi said the governments were visible in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled western and central states of India and far more developed than their counterparts in the east.
