Bhubaneswar: In view of intense heat wave conditions, the Odisha government today announced early summer vacations for schools.
"The government has decided that schools both government-run and private ones will remain shut from tomorrow onwards. Normally, the summer holidays are announced from May, but this time the vacation has been preponed and the schools will reopen on June 18. Training programmes of teachers and various other official works like issuance of certificates can continue," School and Mass Education Minister, Badri Narayan Patra said.
Patra further stated that "Since temperature continues to hover above 40 degrees, it is difficult for students to return from their schools and as a preventive measure, we have decided to close the schools."
It is to be noted that the government had directed school administrations to reschedule class timings and conduct morning classes from 6.30 AM to 10.30 AM from April 2 in view of heat conditions.
Meanwhile, the meteorological department has predicted that heat wave conditions will continue till April 27 and the maximum temperature would hover between 40 and 43 degrees Celsius across several regions of the State.
