Paradip: Members of the Handia Gramya Suraksha Samiti today staged a road blockade at the Essar steel factory near Paradip demanding fulfillment of their seven point charter of demands.

The demands included recruitment, resettlement and compensation for the locals displaced by the project.

Following the protests, employees and workers of the plant were left stranded outside the plant.

The villagers alleged that although many families lost their land due to the project, the plant authorities have failed to rehabilitate the displaced.

The villagers rued that they were denied recruitment in the company. Instead, people from outside the village were are being given jobs.

Despite repeated requests, the plant authorities and district administration have remained indifferent to our demands, the protestors complained.
