Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has prepared to conduct a state-wide mock drill on June 18, 2018 to check efficacy of the preparedness of disaster management ahead of the monsoon season when the State generally witnesses natural disasters like cyclones and floods.

A mock drill on management of flood and cyclone will be held on June 19, 2018 at all 879 multipurpose cyclone shelters in state during which volunteers will take part in disaster management drills. ODRAF, Fire Services, NDRF, PRI members and local NGOs will participate in mock drill

A meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary AP Padhi to review the state of preparedness by the related departments and agencies to encounter such natural disasters was held on Thursday at the Secretariat.

During the meeting, Chief Secretary directed the departments to make proper inventory of rescue and relief equipment available in both private and government sector and keep it handy for use in emergency situations.

“A database will be prepared which will contain the detail list of contractors, the equipments needed for tackling emergency situations during localised disasters will be kept ready for use at state emergency operation centre,” Special Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi said.

During the meeting the Chief Secretary also urged that the state meteorological department should explore possibility of working out region wise rainfall predictions instead of general readings, location specific predictions for localised disasters like thunderstorms and lightning instead of district-wise warning.

This apart, he further directed to pursue the matter with the IMD, New Delhi for installation of two more Doppler Radars at Sambalpur and Balasore.
