Bhubaneswar: As the city woke up to the shocking news of the suicide of Padhee Tutorial owner, Janaki Ballava Padhi; family members claim that debt burden was the cause behind such an extreme step.
As per family sources, Padhi had over Rs 30 crore worth of debt and also suffered losses in business. Two banks had sent notices to him to repay loans and he had also been warned that his KBR college at Pratapnagari in Cuttack will be closed. They assume, due to these reasons he was under mental duress.
“ We suspect debt burden to be the reason behind his death otherwise why would a person like him take this step,” said Padhi’s sister-in-law.
“Sir was staying very glum over the past few days,” said his office staff, Sujit Biswal.

“He had invested a lot but didn’t get any returns. But he had to repay the loans and interest for which he slipped into depression. I had told him many a time to have patience,” said advisor of KBR college.
“It seems like a suicide case. We have got a note which we are examining. We have sent the body for post mortem,” said deputy commissioner of police, Satyabrata Bhoi.
