Bhubaneswar: Rainfall is likely in some parts of south and north coastal districts of Odisha in the next 24 hours under the influence of Cyclone Vardha which intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm this morning, said the local Met officer in a release here today.
According to the release, the cyclonic storm, formed over west-south-central Bay of Bengal and lay centred at 685 km to the south of Gopalpur coast, intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm this morning. It is expected to weaken into a cyclonic storm and cross between south Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu coast tomorrow.
Under its influence, light rainfall is most likely in some parts of south and north coastal districts of Odisha in the next 24 hours.
The release further said though there will be least impact of Cyclone Vardha on Odisha, weather condition in the coastal districts will remain cloudy with a rise in the night temperature.
As strong and gusty surface wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph with gusting 55 kmph is likely to prevail along and off the north Odisha coast and wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph with gusting 65 kmph is likely to prevail along and off the south Odisha coast, fishermen are advised not to venture into sea as sea condition would be very rough during the period.
As part of the cyclone alert, distant cautionary signal no-2 has been hoisted at Paradip and Gopalpur ports.
Meanwhile, temperature fell appreciably in some parts of interior north and south Odisha districts. While Phulbani recorded the lowest night temperature at 7.2 degree Celsius, mercury came down to below 8 degree in Bonai area of Sundargarh district.
