Bhubaneswar: Crops on more than 10,000 hectares of farmland were damaged due to unseasonal rains in Puri, Jajpur and Jagatsinghpur districts, informed Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty today.
Mohanty told mediapersons, "Reports submitted by the Collectors of Puri, Cuttack, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts stated more than 10,000 hectares farm land have been damaged. Compensation will be disbursed among the affected farmers in a month."
He however added, the Collectors of Cuttack and Kendrapara reported nil crop damage on account of unseasonal rainfall in their districts.
The five districts had received significant rainfall during December 9 and 10 due to a depression formed over the Bay of Bengal.
Earlier, crops on 3.84 lakh hectares in 135 blocks spread across 19 districts were affected by unseasonal rain in third week of November.
Farmers who sustained crop loss of 33 per cent and above due to the calamity are eligible to get agricultural input subsidy as per the norms of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), the Minister said.
