Bhubaneswar: The Rajmahal square here today turned into a virtual battleground after the activists of Congress' youth and Student wings clashed with police as they were prevented from proceeding towards the residence of BMC Mayor Anant Narayan Jena in demand of a CBI probe into the alleged links of city Mayor with the death of engineering student Rishi.
Pradhan, who was summoned by Capital police for recording of statement, was rushed to Capital hospital instead. Maharathy was also shifted for first-aid.
As the police foiled their attempt to demonstrate in front of the Mayor’s house, activists staged a road blockade on the spot. The security officials lifted them forcefully and took them to custody.
“I am complaining of chest pain after some police officials including an ACP thrashed and made me fell down. I want to record statement before police that the video clip has direct links with Rishi’s death”, Pradhan said at the hospital.
The students' leader vowed to give justice to the departed soul of Rishi. “He (Rishi) was one of my close friends. I will tell court what had told me before his death. I will fight till my last breath to give him justice”, added Pradhan who was later brought to Capital Police station in an ambulance after being discharged from Hospital .
However, police released him and did not record his statement on health ground. They said the student Congress leader will be summoned again after recovery.
Capital police had summoned Itish Pradhan who went public and named city Mayor as one of the characters seen in a sex video clips posted on social media by a web portal Niakhunta.com. He also alleged that video has links with the death of engineering student Ashutosh Mohanty alias Rishi. The proprietor of the portal Pradeep Pandey, who was summoned in the matter, also appeared before police.
