Contract killers hired to murder Nizampur PS member: Jajpur SP

Jajpur: The recent murder case of Nizampur Panchayat Samiti (PS) member and BJD leader Kedar Das was cracked today with the arrest of key accused Prashant Naik, who hired contract killers to eliminate Das.

Informing about the case in a press meet, Jajpur SP, Charan Singh Meena said that Prashant’s wife had contested for Sarpanch post in recently-concluded rural polls for which he had given Rs 3 lakh to Kedar Das seeking his support. As his wife lost the election, Prashant asked the PS member to return the money. However, Das did not pay any heed, Meena added.

In a fit of rage, Prashant hatched a plan to eliminate him and accordingly, he hired some contract killers to commit the crime, the SP pointed out.

Das, 42, had gone missing on August 1. Two days after, his body was found with multiple injury marks in Budha River near Chainipur Ghat under Mangalpur police limits of the district.

Demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, the district unit of BJD had gheraoed the local police station and staged a road blockade on August 7.
