Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: The Kandhamal conjoined twins Jaga-Kalia have been separated during the second phase surgery today at New Delhi AIIMS, informed Odisha Health minister Pratap Jena. The phase II cranial separation surgery of the twins began today at AIIMS, New Delhi at around 9 am. The surgery is likely to take 12 to 13 more hours.
Further commenting on the surgery, Jena said the health condition of Jaga and Kalia is stable.
“The doctors separated the conjoined twins at around 8 pm today after 11-hour-long surgery. Now, their plastic surgery will be done. The process will continue till 9 to 10 AM tomorrow,” said Jena.

Chief Minister is in direct contact with the AIIMS authorities and is constantly monitoring the developments. Besides, an official from the Health department is at AIIMS who is monitoring the whole process, he added.
Besides, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated the team of doctors for successful operation of the conjoined twins and offered prayers to Lord Jagannath for their speedy recovery.
Earlier at 6 am today, the conjoined twins were taken to the Operation Theatre (OT). After necessary clinical arrangements, the team of experts began the operation.
Earlier, the operation was postponed since the twins were suffering from acute blood shortage.
Meanwhile, prayers are being offered all across the state seeking blessings for the well-being of the twins.
