Bhubaneswar: Protesting against the police summons to Congress chief whiff Tara Prasad Bahinipati, party legislators today created a pandemonium in the Assembly forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House twice.
Leader of Opposition Narasingh Mishra raised the Bahinipati issue as soon as the House met at 10.30 am. However, Speaker Niranjan Pujari paid little heed to him and went ahead with the question hour asking Health and Family Welfare minister to answer the first question of the day.
Angry over the Speaker's cold shoulder, Congress members rushed to the well and shouted slogans against the government and the police.
"It is unfortunate that police have summoned a legislator against whom no allegations have been levelled. The government is trying to terrorise the Opposition members," Mishra said.
Unable to run House, the Speaker first adjourned it till 12.50 and again till 3.00 pm after the Assembly witnessed similar scenes on resumption.
The commissionerate police had issued summons to the Jeypore MLA for allowing arrested ex-legislator Ramesh Jena and his criminal aides to stay in the government quarters allotted to him.
It is said that Jena and his associates were operating their crime syndicate from the MLA’s official residence in Bhubaneswar.
