Congress blocks NH, demands NAC status for Borigumma

Koraput: The demand for Notified Area Council (NAC) status for Borrigumma gained momentum with Congress blocking the National Highway in Jeypore on Monday.

The Congress activists blocked NH-26 and NH-63 to press for their demands and raised slogans against the Centre and Odisha Government which had recently accorded NAC status for Bijepur ahead of the bypoll.

Senior party leaders of block Congress Committee threatened to block the NH from 6 am to 6 pm to put pressure on the State government for according NAC status to Borigumma.

Meanwhile, vehicular traffic was disrupted for long hours due to the blockade while hundreds of vehicles and commuters were seen stranded on the National Highway.

The party leaders alleged that despite repeated demands in the last 17 years, Odisha government has not accorded NAC status to Borigumma panchayat.
