Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the ongoing stalemate in Odisha Assembly, Opposition Congress on Thursday called for imposition of President's Rule in Odisha.
Talking to the media, Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra said that the time had come to protect the Constitutional system of governance from collapse in the State.
“Very soon, we will meet the Governor and apprise him about the current impasse in the House. We will urge him to invoke President's rule in Odisha under Article 356 of the Constitution,” Mishra stated.
Referring to the ruckus in the House over the discussion on the chit fund scam, the Congress leader said the Constitutional system had collapsed in Odisha.
“The chief minister, who took oath to protect the Constitution, is now attempting to violate its tenets. The members of the Opposition parties have a Constitutional right to raise important matters. But, at the instance of the CM, these rights are being snatched away from the members. How will the House run?” he asked.
The septuagenarian lambasted the treasury bench members for not allowing the House to run smoothly.
“On the instruction of the ruling party head, we are not being allowed to present our views in the House. The irony is that outside the House, members of the ruling party are openly bragging that they will not allow the Opposition members to discuss any issue. This is certainly embarrassing,” he stated.
