Bhubaneswar: To bring in more discipline among its personnel, Commissionerate Police has introduced a compulsory group call or attendance roll call for all police officials on duty at 9.30 am every day.

Sources said the group call is meant to review officials’ previous day duty details and also prepare a duty schedule for the current day. A photograph of the group call will be taken and sent to the superior officer in charge of superintending the roll call through WhatsApp messenger.

Similarly, in another significant development, the Commissionerate Police proposed to set up a second traffic police station in Bhubaneswar. The proposed traffic police station will be set up at Chandrasekharpur and a proposal regarding the same has been sent for consideration of the state government, informed sources.

Though a traffic police unit is functioning at Chadrasekharpur, the proposal aims to expand it into a full-fledged police station to better enforce traffic regulations in the crowded Jayadev Vihar-Nandankanan road. Eight police stations including Chandrasekharpur, Chandaka, Tamando, Khandagiri, Nayapalli, Infocity will come under its jurisdiction.

The proposed traffic police station will have 170 personnel, 2 jeeps, and 15 bikes. A budget of Rs 1.91 crore has been estimated for the same which will be recouped from the fines collected from traffic violators.
