Bhubaneswar: A Class-8 student sustained critical injuries after a mobile phone exploded while he was charging the electronic gadget in his house at Kalimeta village under Komana police limits of Nuapada district on Monday.
According to reports, the victim student Krutibas Majhi has sustained nearly 80 percent burns to one of his eyes and is now undergoing treatment in the hospital in critical condition.
"I was charging the phone when it suddenly exploded," said Krutibas.
The family members informed that Krutibas has also sustained injuries on his palm and chest and the doctors have advised them to get him shifted to another eye hospital for specialised treatment.
"After detailed examination by an ophthalmologist, it has been found that the patient's right eye is 80 percent damaged," said doctor, Birija Shankar Rath.
In another incident, four minor children were injured after the battery of a smart phone exploded at Lunguri village in Ganjam block.
According to sources, the children were playing outside their home when they found the battery. Later, the battery exploded when they were trying to connect it to a LED bulb, sources said.
It is suspected that as there was some leftover electricity in the discarded battery and it exploded while the kids tried to connect it to another electronic gadget.
