Bhubaneswar: Amidst efforts of Congress backed by several Opposition parties to move an impeachment motion in the Rajya Sabha against Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra, Odisha's ruling BJD today strongly condemned the social media messages being circulated against the CJI and termed the whole row as shallow and divisive politics.

"We have the highest regard for CJI Misra. We strongly condemn such social media messages which are borne out of rumour-mongering. This has been done by vested interests for narrow political gains and they believe in divisive politics," said Nanda.

"We are contemplating legal action in this regard," he added.

Meanwhile, Odisha BJP's chief spokesperson Sajjan Sharma lashed out at the BJD and said that the party should clear its stance on Justice Misra's impeachment.

"BJD MPs in Delhi and its leaders in Bhubaneswar have opposite stance on the matter. If they really respect the CJI, then why the party's MPs met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in New Delhi? Maintaining such double standards for an honest person from Odisha, who has brought so much laurels for the State, is unfortunate," Sharma said.

People who are against BJP, India's development and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are trying to tarnish the image of Misra for mere political gains, he added.
