Cuttack: As many as 33 persons have been taken ill following leakage of Chlorine gas from the Public Health Division (PHD) pump house situated on the SCB Medical College and Hospital premises here today.
According to sources, panic spread among people present near the pump house following pungent smell of the gas coming out from the Chlorine tanks kept inside the pump house.
After getting information, police and fire fighters have rushed to the spot and efforts are on to plug the leakage.
As per latest reports, some students of the nearby hostels, fire fighting officials and other patients admitted in the treatment wards of the hospital situated around the pump house fell sick following the incident. All of them have been admitted to casualty of the hospital for treatment.
There were as many as 3 chlorine tanks present in the pump house where the chemical is generally stashed for purification of the pumped water and a leakage has reportedly been spotted in one of the older tanks.
