Rourkela: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Crime Branch today arrested Sukanta Mohapatra, a director of Asirbad Multipurpose Cooperative Society, here last night.
He has been forwarded to Cuttack to be presented at the OPID Court there, EOW sources.
Mohapatra had been absconding since a case was registered against M/S Ashirbad Multipurpose and its sister companies - M/S Ashirbad Multi Trade Pvt Ltd, M/S Ashirbad Mulititech & Infracon and M/S Ashirbad Goat Rearing Pvt Ltd - for unauthorized collection of more than Rs 7 crores, the sources said.
After collecting deposits from the office, the directors of the company shut down the corporate office of the company at Paika Nagar in Bhubaneswar and branch offices at various other places in the state.
The Crime Branch had earlier arrested three other directors of the company - Rashmi Ranjan Paikray, Swetanga Patnaik and Subash Chandra Srichandan, EOW sources said.
