Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday continued with its raids at different places of the city for the second day as part of its probe into multi-crore chit fund scam. The investigating agency searched the Bhubaneswar residence of Nabadiganta Capital Services director Kartikeya Parida and seized some incriminating documents.

On Thursday, the investigating agency had raided in 15 places across the state. The premises of the Nabadiganta Capital Services were also part of the agency’s raid.

Residences of Ramachandra Hansdah, BJD MP from Mayurbhanj, Subarna Naik, a former BJD MLA from Keonjhar and Hitesh Bagarti, former Bharatiya Janata Party leader were also searched.

Sources at CBI said Hansdah, Naik and Bagarti were the founding members of the private chit fund company. However, the trio resigned from the company in 2013.

Meanwhile, Naik said he joined the company as he was told that it would be into construction business. When he came to know the company was collecting money from depositors, he moved out of it.
Naik added his signatures in the company’s documents are forged.

Sources added the company was opened on August 12, 2011 and registered under Cuttack Registrar of Companies. The office of the company was opened in IRC Village, Bhubaneswar. In the undivided Cuttack and Puri districts the company duped around 20,000 people of more than Rs 100 crore.

Official sources at CBI said on anonymity it would be incorrect to tell now how much amount the company has duped and how many depositors have been cheated.
