Berhampur: The Ganjam police has arrested eight persons in connection with the murder of Councillor Laxmidutta Pradhan of Ward-6 in Chhatrapur of the district.
Police arrested the accused, who had been absconding since the incident, after conducting raid at various places, informed SP Ashis Singh at a Press meet today.
Singh informed that seven of the eight accused hail from Chhatrapur while one is a resident of Kodala village. The cops have seized three bikes, a car and weapons used in the crime from their possession. The police also seized a CCTV installed in front of the house of the Councillor. The SP said the murder was a well planned conspiracy and fallout of past enmity.
It may be mentioned here that a group of miscreants had entered the house of Councillor Pradhan near LIC Colony in Chhatrapur and attacked him with sharp weapons on September 16. His brother was also critically injured in the attack. Though Pradhan was rushed to the MKCG medical here, he later succumbed to his injuries.
