Chandrakant Acharya of Odisha awarded sword of honor at IMA’s passing out parade

Cuttack: Making Odisha proud, Chandrakant Acharya of Cuttack has been awarded autumn term’s Sword of Honour for the best performing cadet at the Indian Military Academy on Saturday.

This is for the second time in a row that a youth from Odisha has won the prestigious Sword of Honor at Indian Military Academy at Dehradun. Earlier, the award was won by Pratyush Mohanty during the passing out parade last year.

Bangladesh Army Chief General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq awarded the coveted Sword of Honour and bestowed the gold medal to Acharya as per Order of Merit.

According to reports, Acharya had joined the prestigious Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), a government military school in Dehradun while his family stays in Cuttack.

Acharya’s father Ajoy Kumar is a professor of Botany while his brother Suryakant is a chemical engineer in Karnataka.

As many as 487 young men including 78 foreign cadets became part of the Indian Army after passing out from the prestigious institution yesterday.
