Balasore: Less than a month after CBI conducted raid on the office and residence of BJD’s Balasore MP Rabindra Jena in connection with the Seashore chit fund scam, Central Excise officials on Monday carried out searches on the parliamentarian's office and a business unit here.

Information reaching here said, a five-member team is conducting raid on the office of Jena in OT Road. Similarly, searches are being made by the agency’s four-member team at OM Pipe Manufacturing factory in the city.

Talking to OTV on the development, Jena said, "I don’t know the exact reason behind the operation. It clearly shows that raids by Central teams of late, are a political conspiracy. It's deplorable that we are put in trouble."

"I won't be surprised if any Central agency raids my office or residence near future," he stated.

On 12 January, CBI had carried out raids at 25 places in the country including the office and residence of Jena. Moreover, office and houses of two businessmen perceived to be close to Jena were also searched. It was alleged that Supratik Group headed by the Balasore MP had secured a loan of Rs. 18 crore from Seashore Group.

In a related development, father and wife of Green Ray chit fund firm chief Mir Sahiruddin appeared before the CBI on Monday. Unconfirmed sources said they spoke to the CBI officials regarding the arrest of Sahiruddin.

On Sunday, a local court in the capital city granted a six-day remand to CBI for the interrogation of Sahiruddin who is accused of duping gullible investors to the tune of Rs 1000 crore.
