Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is not going to conduct NEET-like single entrance exam for engineering from next year. A decision in this regard, on Sunday, came from the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry.
The HRD ministry stated that it will not be possible to hold single entrance exam for engineering from 2018. However, it will soon come up with a concrete decision after the all India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) submits its report in this regard, it said.
AICTE will submit a report on whether to conduct the single entrance exam for engineering in the future or not, said HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar.

“The issue of single entrance exam is still pending and a committee will submit its recommendations. So, no single entrance exam will be conducted next year. Depending on the recommendation of the committee, we will take further decision,” HT quoted the minister as saying.
It is worth mentioning that India has around 3,400 engineering colleges affiliated to universities, but half of the seats remain vacant every year.

The current admission process for engineering depends on performance of examinations conducted by the States, JEE-Main for Centre-funded institutions conducted by CBSE. Besides, some private colleges have their own set of examinations for admission.
