Bhubaneswar: The CBI continued its investigation in connection with the alleged misrepresentation of age by junior cricket players of Odisha and inspected some documents at Bhadrak Municipality Office today. The inspection was carried out following an earlier notice sent to 10 municipalities in the State.
Yesterday, CBI verified the documents of some players at the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) office. The OCA was asked to submit age-related proofs of Under-16 and Under-19 cricket players.
CBI further summoned some players through the OCA as part of its investigation into allegations that some players have played national-level tournaments for Odisha under different age groups by forging age documents.
OCA was under CBI scanner after it was alleged that 36 players including OCA CEO Bidyut Nayak’s son Subham Nayak manipulated their age to play under-19 matches.
Earlier in 2016, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) banned 20 Odisha cricketers, including 7 women cricketers for 1 year for their involvement in age fudging. Few more cases were reported in the same year and a petition was filed with Sports Integrity Wing of CBI and BCCI.
