Bhubaneswar/Umerkote: After the money transactions between Seashore Agricultural Promotion Company and Bhagaban Majhi, father of former MP and Congress leader Pradeep Majhi, as well as Prasanna Majhi, Pradeep’s younger brother, came to the fore, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the multi-crore chit fund scam in Odisha is likely to dig into the matter, sources said today.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which probes dubious financial transcations, is also likely to join the probe into the links between Seashore and Pradeep Majhi’s family.
Commenting on the talks, SN Tiwari, former DGP said, “If they (CBI) find any discrepancies in the documents relating to the monetary transactions, Pradeep Majhi’s family might be called for quizzing. I believe the CBI will decide on how to proceed after seeing the documents.”
Seeing ‘no harm’ in calling Majhi’s family for questioning, Dharanidhara Nayak, senior advocate, said, “They might be asked under what circumstances money was transferred from Seashore’s account to the bank accounts of Majhi’s father and brother.”
Notably, the OTV had reported a few days back that Seshore had transferred Rs 35 lakh and Rs 1.62 crore to the accounts of Bhagaban Majhi and Prasanna Majhi, respectively, in 2010 and 2011. Bhagaban Majhi had explained the money transfer saying the amount was paid towards maize sold by him to Seshore. Above all, the company had appointed Prasanna Majhi as a commission agent for procurement and supply of maize for Nabarangpur district.
Meanwhile, targeting Pradeep Majhi and his family, BJD has decided to launch a demonstrations demanding a CBI probe into the charges.

Ramesh Majhi, BJD Nabarangpur district president, said, “The party activists will burn effigies of the Majhi family members and stage protests.”
However, Congress MLA Bhujabal Majhi refuted the charges and said the ruling party is trying to gain political mileage out of the issue.
