Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed at Ramadevi Women’s College after cash was seen in circulation, being distributed among students to vote in the Students’ Union Election here on Saturday.
A group of students alleged that Rs 500 along with a bouquet of roses was being distributed among students to vote for candidates of a political party and the photograph of the incident has also gone viral on social media.
Students alleged that the cash was being distributed by the activists of Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) which sparked off tension outside the campus for quite some time.
“Some of our students have clicked pictures when cash along with roses were being distributed by BCJD. When we opposed, the activists and some ex-students of the party threatened us,” said a student.

However, BCJD has refuted allegations of cash distributed to students at Ramadevi Women’s University.
Meanwhile, elaborate security arrangements have been made by Commissionerate Police for smooth conduct of the students election keeping in view incidents of violence in several colleges in the Twin City of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
A large number of students were seen queuing up before respective colleges since early morning as a last resort to woo the voters ahead of the polls that began at 8 am today.
Election for the students’ union is being held at only one university—Ramadevi Women’s University in Bhubaneswar. The results will be announced soon after the counting of votes that will begin after voting ends at 2 pm.
The college and university authorities had earlier issued guidelines for the smooth conduct of the students’ union election. The entry of students without identity or renewed library cards has been banned.
So far there have been no reports of any untoward situation or violence during the conduct of the students’ union polls in the State.
