Bridge caves in, Berhampur-Nayagarh traffic hit

Berhampur: Vehicular traffic connecting Berhampur and Nayagarh district was severely disrupted after a bridge over Ambakhala nullah in Buguda of Ganjam district caved in late on Tuesday night.

However, no causalities have been reported in the mishap. The bridge, collapsed about 15-feet deep, said reports.

Although the exact reason behind the mishap is yet to be ascertained, locals informed that the structure was constructed 50 years ago and had grown weak.

Following the incident, a large number of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road. "This is the only convenient route which connects both the districts,” informed a local.

“No alternative arrangements have been made for resuming traffic on the route and we are facing a lot of problem. However no officials have reached the spot for inspection,” said a stranded truck driver.
