Burla: The medical superintendent of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla has sought a report within 72 hours on the alleged transfusion of HIV and Hepatitis-infected blood to two patients.
“I have asked for a report within 72 hours. If the donor is found out be negative then things will end then and there. Of the donor is tested positive then probe will be conducted,” said hospital superintendent Braja Mohan Mishra.
Following a report by Odisha Television on the botched-up blood transfusion, VIMSAR authorities have launched an investigation into the matter. The superintendent of the hospital has asked a report on the lapses within 72 hours for which a 4-member team has been formed under the chairmanship of the pathology department head.
While a 4-member team led by the Pathology head of the hospital is investigating the matter, a preliminary report was submitted to the Health Secretary by the principal of VIMSAR today.
The blood sample of the patient, who has allegedly been transfused with Hepatitis-C- infected blood, has been collected once again for examination. While the rapid test on the blood sample of the patient showed it as Hepatitis-C negative, the ELISA report is expected tomorrow.
Efforts are being made to collect the blood sample of the other patient, who was allegedly transfused with HIV-infected blood, informed Hospital authorities.
Meanwhile, a team from the Drug Control department led by the district drug control inspector inspected the blood samples at the Red Cross blood bank.
“We have tested one donor and are trying to get the blood samples of the other donor. I suspect that there is some kind of internal conflict in this matter,” said professor of Transfusion Medicine Chittaranjan Prasad, who is part of the investigating team.
