Bhubaneswar: Based on the report submitted by the Angul Collector, Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation today placed junior engineer of Angul division Saroj Kumar Mohanty under suspension for dereliction of duty in connection with a mishap in which a three-year-old girl fell into an open borewell at Gulasara village in the district.
"A disciplinary proceeding against Mohanty is contemplated. Therefore the appointing authority places him under suspension with immediate effect," an official statement said.
Following suspension, Mohanty will be stationed at the headquarters in Bhubaneswar and he can't leave without prior permission of concerned authorities, the statement added further.
Two days ago, the Angul lift irrigation executive engineer had blamed Mohanty for the mishap in his probe report submitted to the Collector.
In the report, the executive engineer had also put the blame on Chhattisgarh-based Ganesh Borewell Agency accusing it of negligence.

The report said that the deep borewell was dug under Biju Krushak Vikas Yojana 2016-17 by Ganesh Borewell Agency but it was left open after the work was completed.
Three-year-old girl Radha fell into the borewell accidentally and was rescued by firemen after a nearly eight-hour-long rescue operation.
