Balasore: A woman was thrashed and misbehaved with allegedly by mob of BJD workers in presence of party president and CM Naveen Patnaik for hurling eggs during inauguration of Talsari beach festival in Balasore today.
The woman, wife of BJP worker Dillip Kamila, threw two eggs back to back while Patnaik was addressing the gathering. Other leaders present on the dias were hit by the eggs while the CM was escorted away unhurt.
According to sources, she resorted to egg hurling protesting detention of her husband along with seven other BJP workers before CM's visit.
Police personnel in charge of the security of the CM swung into action and apprehended her. Later, she was taken to the nearest police station and interrogated.
Meanwhile, BJD condemned the incident and dubbed it as unfortunate. “The act is condemnable. Intolerant of the success of CM Naveen Patnaik, the Opposition party is resorting to such hooliganism. There are many instances of Opposition parties being intolerant,” said Jeevan Pradip Das, BJD MLA from Balasore Sadar.
“If the woman had some particular grievances, she could have raised it before the CM at a proper forum,” Das maintained.
However, the matter will investigated and action will be taken accordingly, he added.
Balasore SP Niti Sekhar said “The woman brought the eggs inside her bag and threw them from the barricade. We have detained her and are interrogating”.
The SP, however, denied allegation that she was beaten up by police personnel. “Police rescued her but the people present there thrashed her. She was admitted to hospital and is being treated,” he added.
Responding to the whole incident, MP Baijayant Panda tweeted "I have already said I don't support throwing eggs or other things in protest, it can cause physical harm. But that doesn't mean the perpetrator should be beaten up, that too after police have taken custody of her!"
BJP, meanwhile, described the incident as a glaring example of BJD's hooliganism. "The incident is a naked example of BJD hooliganism and the CM has played the role of blind king 'Dhritarastra'. The incident is like 'Draupadi Vastraharan' by Kauravas in Mahabharat", BJP leader Lekhashree Samantsinghar said.
