Kendrapara: The newly appointed Kendrapara Minority Cell president of BJD Mir Muzib Baksh resigned from the post on Tuesday.
He said that he took the decision in view of party’s clean image. "My rival group hatched a conspiracy against me. With due respect, I decided to quit the post. I have tendered my resignation to the State president of the minority cell Munna Khan", he said.
Mir was appointed minority cell president last month even as he was facing charges of MDM rice misappropriation. He allegedly misappropriated rice worth over Rs 50 lakh meant for Mid Day Meal. A case was also registered with police by the School and Mass Education department in this regard.
According to the complaint, Bhadrak district project management had selected one Sisir Kumar Rout as the agent for the distribution of Mid-Day Meal in seven blocks and two municipalities in the district for the year 2015-16. However, Rout gave the Power of Attorney to Baksh to carry out the duties in his absence.
It is alleged that during 2015-16, Baksh lifted a total of 51725 quintals of rice but distributed only 49568 quintals at school points.
The matter came to fore after OTV revealed the truth inviting criticism from various quarters.
