Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police on Friday detained two persons including a businessman from Gujarat who was trying to lure people to invest in Bitcoins in Bhubaneswar.
The businessman Hitesh Patel was detained by a team of Saheed Nagar police after a raid on a posh hotel in the city today.
Acting on tip-off that some people from outside the State are organising a business meeting to lure people to invest in the cryptocurrency, police had raided the hotel.
Senior police officials said that the both the detained persons could not produce any documents suggesting that they possessed any certificate or license to hold such meetings for collecting money from people.
Earlier, Nayapalli police had arrested two men for duping several others by taking money from them on the pretext of investment in Bitcoins in March.
The accused - Siba Prasad Biswal and Rakesh Acharya had collected over Rs 15 lakh from several persons in the last three years by promising to invest it in the cryptocurrency.
