Bargarh: With the notification for by-election to Bijepur Assembly constituency coming out today, the Congress party has geared up to select its candidate with the team of observers visiting the constituency and holding discussions with party workers.
Former chief minister Hemananda Biswal said the party candidate will be announced in a day or two.
"The BJP and BJD have selected their candidates very early. Anyway our candidate will be announced soon. Today, we visited Bijepur, Barpali and Gaisilet blocks and held discussions with party workers and people. We will soon report to the high command. We expect the high command to declare the candidate by tomorrow or a day after tomorrow," Biswal said.
The Congress team headed by Biswal today held discussions with party workers at grassroots level in Bijepur, Barpali and Gaisilet blocks.
The team comprising six senior leaders was constituted by the Congress president to select a suitable candidate having winning prospects in the bypoll.
The BJD had earlier announced Rita Sahu, wife of late Subal Sahu - the incumbent legislator whose death necessitated the bypoll - as its candidate while BJP today decided to field Ashok Panigrahi.
