Puri: A basketball player from Chhattisgarh, who had visited Odisha to take part in an inter-university basketball tournament, drowned in Puri Sea on Wednesday.
The deceased player was identified as Aman Kumar, resident of Bhilai in Chhattisgarh. He was part of a 27 players team who had came to Bhubaneswar for an inter-university basketball tournament and that had to return to Bhilai on Wednesday evening as the tournament was over.
However, prior to their return journey the players visited Puri. Two among them went missing while taking a bath in the sea. Later, the two were pulled out of the water but Aman had already lost his life while the other player Aditya Nema is presently undergoing treatment at Puri hospital.
"We came from KIIT University to Puri for a darshan and had to leave by train in the evening. Some students left for the sea after the darshan. I had warned them not to enter the sea but when I reached there a huge wave swept over them and pulled them into the deep waters," said coach of the Chhattisgarh team Piyush Sharma.
