Balasore: Two days after the killing of four persons of a family near here, five persons allegedly involved in the killing were today arrested.

The killing took place at Paganai village on the outskirts of Blasore town on Friday night when the family members were asleep.

The accused persons nabbed by the police were identified as Ramesh Majhi, 31, Sudam Majhi, 27, Jayant Majhi 58, Upendra Majhi 43 and Chandan Jena, 20, all residents of Suelpur and neighbouring areas under Town police station, Balasore.

Following their arrest, the police seized seven daggers from a pond at Nidhipada under Chandipur police station, where they had thrown thw weapons after committing the crime. Besides five cell phones and a motor bike were also seized from their posession.

A case under section 302 (murder), 201 (suppression of evidence) and 34 (common intention) of IPC besides Arms Act and section 27 of Indian evidence act was registered, the police said.

The accused have been produced in the court following their interrogation .

According to police Ramesh Majhi is one of the principal accused and a forest guard engaged under Kuldhia forest range.

Thuough initially, Ramesh claimed that he was on duty on the night of the incident, later he confessed to the crime, police said. He is the elder brother of Mahesh Majhi, who was allegedly killed by Kharabela Majhi and others on October 27 last year.

The incident is fallout of a family acrimony which cropped up from a property dispute. After the murder of Mahesh , his brothers had planned to seek revenge and targetted Prativa, Kharabela Majhi's sister.

"Accordingly, they hatched a conspiracy with others and committed the crime. Efforts are on to nab others, who are at large, Niti Sekhar, Balasore SP, told reporters.The police said 14 persons were involved in the murder case. While five of them are nabbed, remaining nine were absconding, the SP said adding that the pistol from which one round was fired, was yet to be traced.The deceased on Friday night included, Prativa Mandal , her 19 year old daughter Suman Mandal, 17 year old son Subali Mandal and her 13 year old nephew, Bibek Majhi.

Bibek's mother Anita Majhi had lodged an FIR with Sadar police .
