Ganjam: A class 9 student of Sunapalli High School in Kabisuryanagar area of Ganjam district allegedly committed suicide by consuming insecticide after being punished by the school headmaster.
The deceased has been identified as Sourav Sahu.
According to sources, Sourav was chided by teachers in school for indiscipline. Later, the school headmaster called his parents for a discussion. He was scolded and also punished by his grandfather and the headmaster. Ashamed of being punished in front of his friends, Sourav allegedly committed suicide after returning to his house during lunch break.
"Sourav's parents chided him when he went to his house during lunch break. He did not come back to school after that. Later, we came to know about his suicide," Sourav's friend Ramesh Chandra Dakua said.
Meanwhile, police said the truth will come out once the investigation is over. "I have ordered an investigation. We will interrogate the student's classmates as well as teachers," Community Education Officer Sudhansu Patra said.
