Cuttack: Senior BJP leader and former minister Jayanarayan Mishra, arrested in connection with Banabira firing case, was shifted to AIIMS in New Delhi from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment today.

Mishra is reportedly suffering from some kidney-related ailment and was undergoing treatment at SCB since April 24. He was initially admitted at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla for treatment after his arrest.

Mishra was arrested by Sohela police on March 15 for his alleged involvement in the firing case at Banabira village of Bargarh district in which one person was killed while Labour Minister Sushant Singh's brother, Subrat Singh had sustained injuries. The incident occurred just ahead of the Bijepur by-poll on February 22.

Official sources said, as Mishra did not show any signs of recovery while undergoing treatment at SCB medical, he has been referred to AIIMS, New Delhi.

"The SCB hospital authorities referred me to AIIMS in New Delhi for treatment. I was neither given any choice nor asked anything about the treatment," said Mishra, while boarding the Rajdhani Express to New Delhi today.
