Puri: Army Chief General Bipin Rawat along with his family visited Puri Srimandir here today to seek blessings of Lord Jagannath amid a thick layer of security.
Rawat, who is now in Odisha for an inspection of the Army Air Defence Centre, Gopalpur, arrived at the Talabania helipad in the district and later visited the Raj Bhavan here on Saturday.
Later, the Army Chief General visited the 12th century shrine for darshan of the Trinity. Elaborate security arrangements were made by Odisha police for his visit to the pilgrim town.
Speaking to media, Rawat said, “I feel very happy to be here in the temple. I prayed to Lord Jagannath for the well being of my family and all Army Jawans of the country.” He further stated, “I believe in all religions; be it Hindu or Islam or Sikh. For me all are equal.”
Later, Rawat along with his family also visited the Sun Temple in Konark.
