Boudh/Nayagarh: At a time when locals, especially women, oppose sale of liquor close to college and temple in Palasagora village under Manamunda police limits in Boudh, liquor business is rampant here in broad day light.
Though regulations say that a liquor shop should be situated at least two kilometres away from educational institutions, the liquor manufacturing unit in Palasagora is only 300 meters away from the panchayat college.
Women held anti-liquor protests and submitted memorandum to the district collector and Excise department officials, but concrete steps are yet to be taken by the administration.
Aditya Pradhan, a local resident, said, "As many as 500 women took out a rally and passed a resolution for closure of the liquor unit. However, the administration is nonchalant."
Anjali Meher, a college student, "Drunkard villagers consume liquor and heckle us."

In his comments, Shantanu Naik, Boudh District Excise Superintendent, stated, "I have received a petition from villagers and asked inspector to conduct an inquiry. We will relocate the liquor unit, if it is close to the college or temple."
In Barpali under Khandapada block in Nayagarh district, women destroyed country liquor packets and staged demonstration. But the Excise personnel hesitate to take any action.
Kumuduni Behera, a Barapali resident, "Male members of the village are consuming liquor and are not taking care of family."
