Champua: Champua MLA Sanatan Mahakud, who is yet to come out clean in the harassment case filed by his self-proclaimed daughter-in-law Kavita Mahakud; has landed in fresh trouble because of another Kavita - his 'official' daughter-in-law.
The second Kavita or Kavita Palei, who the MLA claims to be his real daughter-in-law, is allegedly a minor. The matriculation certificate of Kavita Palei has her date of birth as June 5, 1998 making her a minor. While Kavita Palei's father claims his daughter is a major, questions are now being raised how an MLA could possibly marry his son off to a minor girl.
“As a father, I can only tell the exact date of birth of my daughter. Her date of birth is July 31, 1997. The date of birth is generally registered by the Anganwadi workers. I cannot say what entry they made,” said Kavita Palei’s father Harekrushna Palei.
Meanwhile, the other Kavita (Mahakud), who brought harassment charges against the legislator, said, “It’s is an offence and everyone involved, including the parents of the girl, should be punished. Since he is a legislator, such an act is improper; he should be punished.”
On the other hand, the administration has said that action will be taken after investigation. “As the issue has been raised, we will inform this to the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO). The CDPO will take necessary action,” said CWC official Dharitri Rout.
