Bhadrak: For residents of five villages under Chandbali block in Bhadrak district, a bridge made from bamboo poles over a nullah is the only means of connectivity to the outside world.
Locals said, due to lack of road connectivity an ambulance or a fire tender could not reach the villages. School students have to cross the nullah by making use of the bamboo bridge in a dangerous condition.
During rainy season when the nullah is in spate the bamboo bridge fails to serve the purpose.
They alleged, despite assurances given by people's representatives on several occasions for a sluice bridge over the nullah, no work has begun yet.
Sudarsan Das, a local, stated, "We have received no help from local MP or MLA who visited the village earlier."
Chandramani Das, another local claimed, "For the past 30 years, we have been told that a sluice bridge will be built over the nullah. However, we are yet to get any relief."
In case of an emergency, villagers take a circuitous route of 30 km to go to the other side of the nullah.
Meanwhile, officials said work on the sluice bridge will kick off after a proposal sent to the high-powered committee gets approval.
Bharat Jani, assistant engineer, Chandbali irrigation dept, said a proposal of Rs 3.98 crore has been prepared and given to the high-level committee.
BJD's Chandbali MLA Byomkesh Ray also informed that a detailed project report has been prepared and sent to the State government for approval.
