8 Maoist militias surrender in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: Eight Maoist militias, including two cadre Maoists, surrendered before the district police here today.

Briefing media persons here, Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra said the two cadre Maoists—Unga Madakami and Adama Kartami—had a cash reward of Rs one lakh each on their head.

“Along with these two cadre Maoists, the six Maoist militias were working for the Kalimela Dalam since last five years and were involved in several violent activities, including the Gurumutri Madhi murder, Keriaguda murder, Silakuta double murder, Kuruba murder and blasting of Niliguda and Materu panchayat buildings,” the SP said.

He said they decided to return to the mainstream as the top cadres deviated from the Maoist ideologies and indulged in mindless killing of innocent people

“As per the rules of the government, steps would be taken to rehabilitate these surrendered Maoists,” Mohapatra said.
